Dear Friends,
I am writing to urge you to vote for Chris Dempsey for State Auditor in the Democratic Primary. Chris is the clear choice in this important race to be the Commonwealth’s next Chief Accountability Office. He is a proven watchdog for the public interest and has a clear vision for how the office can help us on issues ranging from climate change, to reform of the State Police, to ensuring the proper use of federal stimulus dollars. He has been endorsed by the Boston Globe, the Massachusetts Democratic Party, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, incumbent Auditor Suzanne Bump, 26 women legislators, the Environmental League of Massachusetts, and many more.
Please vote *this Tuesday*, September 6th (the day after Labor Day). You can find your polling location here.
Chris’s background:
— Chris led the grassroots, volunteer campaign No Boston Olympics which was successful despite being outspent 1,500-1 by some of the most powerful corporate interests in the state. Chris has already saved taxpayers billions in Olympic cost overruns. He followed the facts fearlessly — just what we need in a State Auditor.
— Chris was Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Governor Deval Patrick. He is the only candidate in the race with executive branch experience, which is the focus of the Auditor’s Office. Chris co-founded the MassDOT program that led to smartphone apps that let transit riders track the locations of their buses and trains in real-time. He has already shown he can reform government from the inside in ways that improve our lives.
— Chris is the son of public school teachers, a graduate of Brookline Public Schools, and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Chris lives in the first floor of a triple-decker in Brookline Village with his wife, Anna. He has served his community as a Brookline Town Meeting member since 2012, and as Chair of the Transportation Board.
Since the start of the campaign, Chris has:
— Earned the endorsement of the Boston Globe, which wrote, “Chris Dempsey has the experience to do the job with a fresh focus on new priorities fitting the times we live in, and he has never been shy about reaching out to engage the public in issues he believes in.”
— Earned the endorsement of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu
— Been endorsed by incumbent State Auditor Suzanne Bump, the first woman to ever hold the office and the person who knows the job the best
— Earned the endorsement of the Mass Democratic Party with a win at the Democratic Convention
— Earned the endorsement of 25 women legislators — more than any other candidate — including the endorsement of Senate President Karen Spilka
— Raised contributions from more than 2,300 individual contributors (by far the most in the race)
— Received significant coverage for his policy proposals
But pollsters are calling the State Auditor race, “the most competitive in the state” and Commonwealth Magazine has called it “a knife fight”. Chris is running against a State Senator with a socially conservative voting record. By contrast, Chris has earned the endorsement of Progressive Massachusetts, Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts, and the Co-Chairs of the House Progressive Caucus.

Please vote for Chris in the Democratic Primary. This will be a very close race and your vote really matters!
Sincerely,

Took the @MBTA home last night with Anna. This is the first year in a lifetime of riding the T that I question my personal safety while riding. It's scary. We need more officials on Beacon Hill who experience this daily. https://t.co/hQVdZ3juTQ #mapoli #mapoliontransit
